Free COVID-19 Rapid Testing Kits Available for Small Businesses
If you are a small business owner and would like information about free testing for your business, please call the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce at 373-7800 or email denise@amarillo-chamber.org. Test kits are FREE to small businesses, even if your business is not a member of the Amarillo Chamber. Businesses wishing to safely and quickly test their employees at their business are required to watch a short instructional video to be certified before testing can begin. Businesses are required to report the test results to the State of Texas through a simple web-based platform. Denise will be able to explain the process, course requirements, and will schedule a time for test kits to be picked up and answer any questions once the business is certified.
To learn more about this program that was started in an effort to help support the continued operation of small businesses throughout the state of Texas by Governor Abbott, click here. Please note, the Chamber of Commerce does not conduct testing at our office, and these kits are for businesses for their employees and not for the general public. |

US Dept. of Agriculture Alert 7-28-20
Mystery Seeds Arrive in Texas -- Recipients advised to report unsolicited seed shipments

Texas residents are now among those across the nation receiving mysterious seeds delivered by mail in tiny bags marked as jewelry. U.S. Department of Agriculture officials are on alert because these seeds are unsolicited.
Kevin Ong, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service plant pathologist and director of the Texas Plant Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in College Station, said the concern arises because these packages have seeds in them instead of what is listed, and there is no information on what type of seeds they might be.
“We don’t know what kind of seeds they are,” Ong said. “Not knowing what the seeds are could potentially open our agriculture industry up to noxious weeds. If that proves to be the case, if they take hold, they could impact agriculture negatively.”

Amarillo Matters Shop Local Small Business Winners
Amarillo Matters recently donated more than $25,000 and raised additional funds for a campaign to promote shopping locally at small businesses. Businesses that were locally owned, had less than 50 employees, and were members of one of the local Chambers of Commerce, were eligible for the random drawings for weekly $1,000 prizes for the business. Each winning business was also given $500 to give away in a drawing to one of their customers. Over the course of 13 weeks Amarillo Matters gave $45,000 to 30 businesses in the Amarillo area.
Thank you to Amarillo Matters for helping out these small businesses in such a trying time. |
