GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL

The Governmental Affairs Council represents business interests in public policy and civic arenas by researching, identifying and tracking legislative issues and advocating for business interests to governmental officials on the local, state and federal levels. The council strives to increase community awareness of local, state and federal issues through special programs and by providing chamber members access to governmental officials through the following venues:

Federal Affairs:

Congressional Update: This informal luncheon brings together members of the area Congressional delegation with business and community leaders from the Panhandle for an update on key issues.

State Affairs:

Panhandle Day in Austin: This advocacy event is designed to provide an opportunity for business and community leaders from throughout the Panhandle to travel to Austin during the bi-annual legislative session for discussions with state legislators regarding key issues identified by the State Affairs Committee, that affect Amarillo and the entire region.

Legislative Update:

Following the legislative session, this informal luncheon is designed to provide an opportunity for business and community leaders from Amarillo and the surrounding area to receive an update from area legislators on the legislation presented during the session regarding issues affecting this area.

Local Affairs:

Mayoral Address to the Chamber: This luncheon provides an opportunity for chamber members to meet the Mayor and for the Mayor to discuss the current Amarillo business climate and issues affecting the business community.
