Ag Council
Agribusiness is
the concept of the agriculture industry, which includes more than just
farmers and ranchers. According to John H. Davis of Harvard
University, who coined the term, agribusiness involves "the sum total of all
operations of the farm; and the storing, processing and distribution of farm
commodities and the items made form them."
The mission of the Ag Council is to increase the visibility of
agriculture and awareness of it importance to the Panhandle economy through
the following venues:
- Hosting the annual Ag Appreciation Luncheon held at the beginning of
the Farm & Ranch Show each November.
- Support area agricultural research and education programs.
- Work with the Beef Task Force to bring new products to market.
- Support urban and rural water conservation and education
- Develop and support agriculture related legislative issues.
- Provide input on regulatory policies that affect agriculture.
- Publish a study of the importance of agriculture in the 26-county
High Plains Trade Area of Texas.
