The AMoA (Amarillo Museum of Art) Biennial 600: Printmaking will be an exhibition of artwork selected by a nationally renowned juror from works submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas. The exhibition will be on view May 17 – August 11, 2013. Kathleen Edwards, chief curator of the University of Iowa Museum of Art, Iowa City will jury the exhibition. A print specialist, she has curated more than 75 exhibitions.

The aha moment tour features a one-of-a-kind mobile television studio in a 34’ Airstream trailer designed to capture and share Americans’ aha moments across the country. Locals can sign up for their spot and view previously recorded moments at http://www.mutualofomaha.com/aha. It is all part of Mutual of Omaha’s search for their next commercial spot featuring real people sharing real stories. From the participants along the 20-city and 7,300-mile tour, one new 30-second ad will be produced to air next year.

Hi, My name is Jesse Melson, my wife Kylee and myself started The Paper Crane art gallery down in Canyon. If you would like to get a booth at our First Annual Art Market. We are looking for arts/ craft/ vintage antique vendors, and I think your artwork would do great here! The Art Market will be Saturday, June 1st from 9a.m.-6p.m. with 10x10' booths available for $50 each, $30 booths for high school/ college/ university students. For the third year, four business and professional women’s organizations in Amarillo are joining together to raise scholarship funds to assist women entering or returning to college. Higher education leads to more opportunity for financial stability, and there is much information available to support this fact. Timing is everything as the saying goes, and now is the right time for this effort.

The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo Chapter International Association of Administrative Professionals, Amarillo Women’s Network and Texas Business Women of Amarillo are choosing to impact our community in a positive way by co-hosting the WOW Scholarship Luncheon on Thursday, July 11, 2013, to raise funds for their scholarship programs. We are asking that you consider one of two sponsorship opportunities and support us as we work to develop Amarillo and enhance our workforce.

About the speaker:

Ask Mitzi Veloz if she thinks education is important. She will tell you her story to illustrate why she thinks education is not only important, but also necessary.

Mitzi and her husband, George, own Tacos Garcia and Burrito Stop in Amarillo. Around their businesses and rearing 2 daughters, Mitzi began her college career later in life, but with her family’s encouragement, she is nearing the end. It has been difficult, and it would have been easier to quit at times. George always tells her to keep going; he tells her she can do it. He is a large part of her story.

Mitzi became a wife and mother at a young age. Her journey from then to now has been about faith and family. She would not say this about herself, but her story is also about commitment, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and love.

She is a blessing to Amarillo. Her servant heart gives and gives, and always with a smile on her face. Her husband, George takes great pleasure in saying that this is Mitzi 24/7. Smiling. Pleasant. Giving. Her daughters will tell you that her guidance and has been a large part in who they are now and in who they will become.

The Amarillo Art Institute is excited to announce our first annual Beaujolais Nouveau Party on Thursday, November 21, 2013 in the Special Events Room at Sunset Galleries, 3701 Plains Boulevard from 6pm – 8pm. Every year millions of cases of Beaujolais Nouveau are shipped from Paris to shop owners around the world at midnight on the third Thursday of every November. At the strike of midnight, France erupts in massive celebration in honor of the unveiling, or rather uncorking, of the Beaujolais Nouveau wine. Beaujolais Nouveau, which is a young wine only 6 weeks old, comes from a region south of Burgundy in France. All over the country, grand traditions have developed in honor of the release of the Beaujolais, with the biggest festival taking place in Beaujeu, the capital of the Beaujolais region. Since 1985, when the third Thursday of November was established as the uniformed release date for Beaujolais wine, all over the world its arrival has been celebrated by festivals and parties. Amarillo Art Institute joins the rest of the world in celebrating the arrival of the Beaujolais wine with a fundraiser benefiting educational classes, workshops, and programs for artists and art lovers in our community and surrounding areas.
